discontent

art direction, graphic design and motion design for a short film set in the late 1970s.

« when parts of the british working class go on strike in the late 1970s, a young gravedigger is torn between his own economic survival, loyalty to his partner and colleagues, and the dilemma between individual and common good. »

to tell a story from the 70s convincingly, we relied on images of real working class family homes instead of the trendy magazine interior designs of the time. because of budget constraints we bought most set pieces secondhand or found them in our own collections. i also recreated print media (protest posters, a council letter and a newspaper) from 1979, making sure to use accurate typography and design choices.

my biggest contribution to the project is an animated credit sequence created in after effects using a 2.5d animation technique with illustrated images. in addition, i designed two film posters.

the film has not been published online yet.
